WAR Travis 3/6/2014 poem

The idea of war

Gear up
Grab amo and guns
March to battle
Standing in a pit
Looking out
Ready to fight
On first sight of the enemy
Fire

The reality of war

Man falling
Blood dripping
Pools of  bullets
Blow the horn
Full assault
Peace and quiet new
Dead soldiers across the land

Dear Mr Clinch,
Thanks a lot for donating the IPad tablet, cover and screen guard as a prize for the Manawatu Garden Festival.
We were very proud to win and feel so lucky to win a tablet!!
Because we are a small school everyone gets to use it. We use it for a lot of things such as practising our maths and recording our learning so we can check our understanding and show our learning. It is just the beginning. We still have heaps to learn and we are using it more and more.
We find it so useful and we like it so much that we are hoping to get a couple more.
Thanks so much.
We were proud of our garden sculpture and were very proud to win. We made a sheep and a lamb out of wire woven with plastic shopping bags and painted black eyeballs. They were sitting with a farmer that we made from recycled pots, buckets and pipe. We made a pottery face and found an old hat and put it over his baling twine hair to make him look like a farmer.
We made a chair for him to sit on. The farmer bought his lunch and he was feeding the lamb from a bottle.  You have probably guessed that we are from the country!!

Could you please thank the whole company. We have thanked Noel Leeming in our school newsletter for you. We love the prize and we will encourage people to shop at Noel Leeming.

Thanks again,
From

Travis

Going to granddad's for the first time

Vroom Vroom Vroom
The vehicle starts. I spring up out of my bed and rush, rush get to the vehicle.
"Mum Dad where are we going?"
"I am not going to tell you."
One hour later we are half way there and we were hungry and tired.
Mince pies for lunch on the way ... my favourite. Me, Derek and Mum play the game red blue for hours. Finally we are there! We rush to the door.
Knock Knock ... Granddad!!
Granddad's house is part caravan with little area of a house beside it. Inside the little box is a computer in a cupboard. It is painted white. When we walk through into the caravan there is a double bed, a fold out double bed and two couch beds. In there is also a fridge in the wall and a stove just ticking out. The drawer under the fridge has the washing machine. It was a real bach.
I was looking forward to going fishing and all of the fun things I could do on the beach with Granddad.
When we got there we only had one scooter that Derek and I shared. We always fought over it but when we went to ride on our scooter Granddad came out with his old scooter. It was black, a bit rusty with a blades logo on the side. We were having a great time scootering until Derek charged me head on with the scooter and I quickly swept to the side of the path. Derek fell off, jumping from the scooter into the grass. Derek kept on going ... going ... jumped off the scooter into the grass patch. The scooter smash smack screeching along the concrete. A piece here. A piece there. That was the end of that scooter.
And this is just one of our many adventures at granddad's place.

"Go to bed, fire on board." I sprang up as I raced to the deck. "Man on fire, rain coming wait that not rain.
The deck fills with blood. "Fire ball." One survivor. Join in for part two.

The trip down

Train coming “errrrrrr”
The school waits for 12 seconds. Then we all climb aboard and find the seats are backwards. When the train started to move I fell of my seat. It was freaky.
There was beautiful scenery drifting in the wind in by my window. Soon we came to a halt. People started to walk out. Then soon more people gathered back in.
Suddenly the train started to move again. I quickly grabbed the handles. Without another second everything went black. Took me a while to figure out what was happening but we were just in a tunnel. About four five times it went black but mostly it was bright and sunny.
I clenched my fist on the handle as I could see we were coming to a stop. Two people aboard.
“pshhhh:” The doors close and we are off like a rocket. The ticket lady comes around and a man had a fake ticket so at the next stop he got kicked off the train. Glad we had real tickets!
Before long we were skidding off the train. We all lined up behind Mrs Cuming and we were walking in the city to the youth hostel!

Wellington Camp 2014

We arrive. Brakes go on. Unload the vehicles! As we sat waiting for the train, one by one each group walked across the road to the train station. After a few minutes waiting the train slowly slopes into the train station. Everyone waited for about a second and then hopped aboard looking for a front seat. But no ... there was only backwards! Super freaky!
The train starts and a giant squeak happens. I fall off my seat as soon as it moves. I realise I need to hop back on.
As I hop back on my seat I see green and blue for miles. There were bushes around the corners. There was birdlife for half of the way.
We stopped in an instant at another stop to pick up some more passengers.  The train starts. I quickly grab a handle.
We are off again .. My heart was beating quickly because the train was going faster and faster. The train came to a stop in the city. Suddenly all of the school hops off.
This is my very first time going on a train and it is a great experience for me!
