William Henry Gates III
Let me introduce you to William Henry Gates III ... one of the richest men in the world.
He is an interesting man because he is the developer of microsoft.
When he was young Bill Gates loved board games and has always been competitive in everything he did. He is an intelligent guy and got into lots of trouble at school.
When Bill turned 13 he was sent to Lakeside Preparatory School. His parents hoped it would be a challenge. At the school he made friends with Paul Allen, who would become his future business partner.
When Bill was growing up computers were large and complicated. People didn't have laptops and tablets like we do today. Computers were only in big businesses and they used to fill whole rooms. Imagine having a computer filling your lounge.
His school, Lakeside, purchased a computer for students to use. Bill Gates became interested in it and from that day on they became his life.
In 1975, Gates flunked out of Uni and set up a company. He called this company Microsoft. It 1980 this changed for the better. Microsoft made a deal with IBM The deal was to provide the MS-DOS operating system on the new IBM PC. This would change computing.
Then Gates began to develop other programmes such as Microsoft office. We all use this everyday!! I even now have a microsoft PC tablet.
In 1986 his company's stock was worth $520 million and Bill Gates owned 45% of this! Imagine that ... $234 million. Bill Gates was the richest man in the world.

Bill Gates is inspirational. He has changed the world. Without computers, without microsoft life would be much more difficult.
I couldn't research, write or present this speech!!

Commonwealth at Cheltenham
Last week, on Friday, we went to Cheltenham School for a fun and sporty day celebrating the Commonwealth Games.
There were sports like shotput, gymnastics, discus and many more. I especially enjoyed the discus because I was throwing well and a great distance. We did a cooperative challenge like relays with apple bobbing, fence making, sack races and egg and spoon racing and wheel barrow races with people inside and eating dry weetbix. This was a very good idea as it was sporty and fun. We all enjoyed it.
It was a great day because everyone was nice to each other and cooperated. They set it up very well

WAR Travis 3/6/2014 poem
The idea of war
Gear up
Grab amo and guns
March to battle
Standing in a pit
Looking out
Ready to fight
On first sight of the enemy
Fire
The reality of war
Man falling
Blood dripping
Pools of bullets
Blow the horn
Full assault
Peace and quiet new
Dead soldiers across the land
Gear up
Grab amo and guns
March to battle
Standing in a pit
Looking out
Ready to fight
On first sight of the enemy
Fire
The reality of war
Man falling
Blood dripping
Pools of bullets
Blow the horn
Full assault
Peace and quiet new
Dead soldiers across the land

Dear Mr Clinch,
Thanks a lot for donating the IPad tablet, cover and screen
guard as a prize for the Manawatu Garden Festival.
We were very proud to win and feel so lucky to win a
tablet!!
Because we are a small school everyone gets to use it. We
use it for a lot of things such as practising our maths and recording our
learning so we can check our understanding and show our learning. It is just
the beginning. We still have heaps to learn and we are using it more and more.
We find it so useful and we like it so much that we are
hoping to get a couple more.
Thanks so much.
We were proud of our garden sculpture and were very proud to
win. We made a sheep and a lamb out of wire woven with plastic shopping bags
and painted black eyeballs. They were sitting with a farmer that we made from
recycled pots, buckets and pipe. We made a pottery face and found an old hat
and put it over his baling twine hair to make him look like a farmer.
We made a chair for him to sit on. The farmer bought his
lunch and he was feeding the lamb from a bottle. You have probably guessed that we are from
the country!!
Could you please thank the whole company. We have thanked
Noel Leeming in our school newsletter for you. We love the prize and we will
encourage people to shop at Noel Leeming.
Thanks again,
From
Travis
